Maserati leather interiors are softer and more refined than most of what is on the premium market today. Poltrona Frau Leather Care Tips.

Poltrona Frau is a luxury furniture company in Italy. They were selected by Maserati to supply the leather interiors to the fine luxury vehicles because they have arguably the most exhaustive quality standards of any company in the world. Their proprietary 21-step leather tanning process is nearly double the industry standard. The full-grain leather is dyed completely through the hide. No surface scratches show, the material is softer to the touch than nearly any other leather on the market, and the durability is unmatched. Poltrona Frau Leather and Maserati each maintain a century-old legacy. Like Maserati, much of the Poltrona Frau leather is still treated and made by hand. In fact, 95% of the leather-making and conditioning process is done manually.

The Poltrona Frau company is currently the only supplier of leather for use on Maserati vehicles. Their standards and unparalleled craftsmanship are evident the moment the leather is touched. The seats are otherworldly and the care and attention to detail are unbelievable. The company turns down more hides through its selection process than it accepts. They demand a suppleness and warmth that is hard to find. The finished product is completely organic, naturally embossed, and hardwearing. The leather is naturally warm in winter months and practical and cool in the summer.

Unlike the leather in some luxury vehicles, the Poltrona Frau quality is more apparent over time. The leather, after undergoing the extended proprietary tanning treatment in Italy, is rendered permanently supple and nearly elastic in nature. Modern luxury cars using a more standard, machined approach to leather production have a reputation for their leather becoming marked, dried out, and eventually cracked over time. The more natural, refined approach adopted by Maserati encourages the leather to only become more supple as it ages, taking on a unique and attractive aged patina.

Caring for Maserati Leather

No matter what you do to prevent your one-of-a-kind Poltrona Frau leather seats in your Maserati from getting dirty, over time they naturally pick up the oils and grime from your body. If you feel a cleaning or conditioning is in order, we recommend that you do not use a standard department store brand of leather cleaner. When you have the best, it requires the best to maintain it. The Poltrona Frau company recommends a product called the Elisir di Lunga Vita Bottles Kit. More information on the leather cleaning and conditioning kit can be found here. The kit is available for purchase elsewhere online.

This product is essentially a water-based liquid cleaner and a water-based leather protection and maintenance cream. It was originally developed for people who owned the fine Italian leather furniture made by Poltrona Frau, but as the leather is one in the same, it has naturally made its way to Maserati vehicles. Maserati also sells a custom leather cleaner and reviver as well as a delicate fabric cleaner at the Maserati Store. The cleaner and reviver are sold as part of a car care kit, and it is the only other product specifically conditioned for Poltrona Frau leather.
