June 9th, 2016 by

If your favorite vehicle brand is Maserati, you’ve likely noticed that these cars pop up in movies frequently. Maserati vehicles are beautiful, elegant, and offer a fun driving experience. Because of this, it’s a popular choice for movie directors and producers. So, what are some of the most memorable Maserati appearances in films?

James Bond: License to Kill

The 1989 James Bond movie, License to Kill, featured a Maserati Biturbo 425i. While it was not the main vehicle used in the film, the Biturbo 425i showed up when Bond was being transported. It was driven by a henchman, and showed off both the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The car was manufactured from 1981-1994, and the one in James Bond: License to Kill was a 1987. This movie helped cement the image of Maserati in the American film industry.

The Godfather III

Fans of the mob movie The Godfather III, released in 1990, recognize the Maserati Quattroporte III. The 1980 model of the vehicle made a big impression on Maserati fans, and inspired the use of the vehicle in other movies later on. In fact, because of the introduction of the Quattroporte III in the movie, this model has become the most popular Maserati vehicle in movies today.

Underworld

The 2003 fantasy movie Underworld featured the 1998 Maserati 3200 GT. The vehicle was used frequently throughout the movie, and is driven by Kate Beckinsale. When looking for a vehicle that works with a vampire fantasy, the 3200 GT fits in perfectly. It has the style and sophistication needed, with the beauty and otherworldly look expected in such a film. The vehicle was manufactured from 1998-2001.

Limitless

In the 2011 film Limitless, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro each drove a GranTurismo Coupe. The car was featured in trailers for the movie, and makes the most of fast-paced city driving. The interesting thing about the GranTurismo making its way into the movie was that no money changed hands between the filmmakers and the auto company. Universal Studios was looking for a vehicle with great performance, beautiful styling, and amazing class, and they got it all with the GranTurismo.

James Bond: Casino Royale

In this 2006 James Bond movie, two Maserati vehicles were featured — the 2004 Maserati Coupe and the 2002 Maserati Spyder. While these were not integral to the movie, Maserati and Bond fans notice them in a variety of shots. These vehicles help add the style and class needed for the movie.

Desperate Housewives

While Desperate Housewives is a television show and not a movie, it featured a 2002 Maserati Spyder in several episodes. The vehicle was driven by the character Gabrielle, and even when she replaces her vehicle, she simply gets a new Spyder.

When you’re watching movies or television shows, sometimes it’s difficult to spot your favorite vehicles. Maserati has become a popular choice for filmmakers, whether the vehicle is in the spotlight or just shows up in a few scenes. These cars show style, have the performance needed for the silver screen, and are a fan favorite.
