Maserati Ghibli and Maserati Ghibli S Q4 Difference

Bold, graceful, assertive and elegant, the Maserati Ghibli offers something very different. Here’s how to distinguish between its trim levels.A luxury sedan, the Ghibli offers relaxing comfort and effortlessly intuitive technology, in addition to its race-bred performance. There’s

  • graceful four-door design
  • sporting character
  • smooth, luxurious riding paired with razor-sharp handling.

The Maserati Ghibli comes in base trim + two other options.

The Granlusso trim exemplifies luxury and offers superior comfort, while the Gransport trim embodies Maserati’s unique motor sport heritage.

What is the difference between the base model Ghibli and the Ghibli SQ4?

In previous model years, the differences were fairly drastic, with the SQ4 offering several standard luxury features not available in the standard Ghibli. With the introduction of the Granlusso and Gransport trims, the aesthetic differences between the two have been all but eliminated.

The major difference between the 2018 Maserati Ghibli and the 2018 Maserati Ghibli S Q4 is performance and technology.

Both vehicles come with the 3.0-liter twin turbo V6. When equipped in the base Ghibli this engine produces 345-horsepower with 369 lb. ft. of torque. In the Ghibli S Q4, the same twin turbo V6 has been sport tuned to produce 424-horsepower with 428 lb. ft. of torque.

Both options offer an exhilarating driving experience, but the Maserati S Q4 offers enhanced acceleration and improved max speed.

Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive System

The other major difference is the Q4 intelligent all-wheel-drive system. This system is only available on the Maserati Ghibli S Q4. Under normal driving conditions the Q4 intelligent all-wheel-drive system diverts all torque to the rear wheels for that classic Maserati driving experience. If driving conditions become adverse, or traction is lost during acceleration or cornering, the Q4 system will split the torque to 50:50 between the front and rear wheels. The intelligent system can also track the loss of traction and apply torque as needed.
